Dear period 2, I started reading all your separate posts and grading them separately, but there were 50 late blogs posted which would have taken me at least 2 to 3 hours to grade at the busiest time of the school year. I can't be that inconvenienced because you couldn't be bothered to do your work on time.

All of you will get a grade of 4 for each post. You won't see comments, but it will show up in your report card grade. I may decide not to give credit for individual blogs, but that won't be recorded.

The comments were terrific, but they were too late to be grade.

I really enjoyed your posts, even the late ones. :) Have a great summer.

School Budget Cuts!!!

School sports and after school activities such as football, baseball, band, and driver's education are being taken away from students. Not only do after school programs get cut but in school technology such as heaters and office refrigerators are being removed from the school to save money on electricity. Some school are put down with tough decisions like shortening the school year to save money as well. Losing sports and band activities can affect the life of a student who is trying to pursue a job or career in that matter.

i chose this story because i believe strongly in school having after school activities such as sports and band are important for a student to have available to them and because I've been involved in sports for numerous years. I like and agree with this article because ts gets straight to the point of what's going on in our school systems.

Gas price increase and Rising

Oil per barrel has now increased to $69. Gas prices from last month have increased 46 cents. These oil prices have been rising since march 21st but it isn't as bad as last year because around this time last year gas prices were practically $4 dollars a gallon. So hopefully gas prices dont get as crazy as they were.

i chose this story because gas prices are a big deal because i know i drive a lot and am always pumping gas and i know a lot of other people do too. This article was okay it didn't have to much to say in terms of gas prices increasing and the statistics. I might use this site again.

What is this article about?
"On the eve of President Obama's highly anticipated speech to the Muslim world, al Qaeda's second-in-command issued an audio statement saying the president of the United States is not welcome in Egypt." All Obama is trying to do is restore the balance between the two nations, relations and image of America. But the terrorist network's deputy leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, said those relations cannot be mended as long as the administration maintains its alliance with Israel. This is what the world is still like. They still cant trust us for the things former presidents have done.

Housing Recoveries Threatened by Detroit Layoffs

GM over the next eighteen months will be closing fourteen plants and three warehouses which leaves over twenty thousand employers will be laid off. Because of this situation the housing recovery that was taking place is now threatened because if no one is working that will increase the amount of available home which will lead to many foreclosures. With all the foreclosures it will really hurt that community.

i chose his article because the title seemed interesting. i would use this site agin because it was very detailed and gave many examples and comparisons.

Banks racing to exit TARP

Banks that underwent the stress test program are trying to win the approval of  treasury departments to exit TARP. TARP is also known as the troubled asset relief program. Many banks are trying to raise their capital to pay back tax payers and other such things. If banks don't exit TARP can lose big clients and markets which would make it harder for the bank to compete. So to get out of TARP banks are trying to raise capital to pay governments shares and make billions of dollars in common stock markets.

1.)I chose this article because I'm just trying to finish this assignment but then found article to be interesting
2.) i agree with decisions made to exit TARP as soon as possible.
3.) I would use this site again because it was accurate and had insightful information.

Pending home sales rebounding

http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/02/real_estate/April_pending_home_sales/index.htm

This article is about how home sales are decreasing because of the economy. People are scared to buy new homes because morgages have gone up. home prices are now starting to fall.home prices are now down more than 30%, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index.this is to try and get more people to buy homes.I cant disagree or agree with this article because homes are going to be sold for less but morgages are still going to be high.I picked this article because its good information to know. i would use this article again to inform future home buyers.

Heinz Falls

Heinz ketchup had a major decrease in sell of their condiments. Due to the economic recession many people are no longer paying for the expensive name brand condiments and are now looking to pay for the store brand products. Heinz earned only 55 cent per share this year as opposed to last year earning up to 61 cent per share. Heinz doesnt plan on cutting prices, they plan on marketing and using different kind of packages to keep the consumers buying.

I chose this article because i found it intriguing how even the smallest things in the country are effected by recession.

I do not agree with this article i feel Heinz should cut prices if they plan on staying around.

This was presented fairly given facts and different opinions on the Heinz.

I would use this source again i feel it was an interesting article.

Gas Gas Gas

Americans bought cars in may more then any month for the whole year. Despite the selling of cars, sales were 34% percent lower then last year. The cars that people are buying are depending on the prices of gas. As gas increases people are buying smaller cars that take less fuel making it alot more inexpensive for consumers to keep up with. Americans are not buying enough making it harder for these auto businesses to stay around.

I chose this article because it spoke of the effects of gas prices on the economy.

I agree that if gas prices go up people will begin to buy smaller cars.

This article was presented fairly with accurate details.

I would use this cite again because it is accurate.

Recession is making nursing shortage worse

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/opinion/20090602_Recession_is_making_nursing_shortage_worse.html

There has been a shortage of nurses needed because of the recession. Hospitals have been laying people off and some have even closed down. Some other nurses are postponing there retirements because of loss of there savings and relatives losing there jobs. This is causing a competition in employment. Then there is not enough nurses to teach the next generation. There is a chance in a long term shortage in the health career. This is a bad time for the nursing shortage because baby boomers are aging, developing more chronic conditions that will cause their health-care needs to grow dramatically, which will require a larger nursing workforce. For a while there will be to many nurses but then in the future we would have a shortage of them. I chose this article because i am going to study a health career in nursing and this good information to know.I would use this again to inform people .

What Bankruptcy? Dow Surges 221

http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/bulls-wave-gm-fears/

The Dow Jones Industrial rose more than 200 points on Monday, even when General Motors became one of the largest bankruptcy in America. Monday's  Wall Street, pushed the S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite to their best closing levels of 2009. It also marked the best one-day performance for the Dow in two weeks. Supposedly the economy is healing slowly, but seriously we need more time, just because of one good day in Wall Street doesn't mean we have to get all happy just yet. I do agree with what is being said in this article, it kind of gives you a sense of relief. The information was presented fairly because it is letting you know that just because we are in an economic crisis doesn't mean that there is always going to be bad news. I chose this article because it caught my attention really quick, maybe because of the "fee-free". I am for the "fee-free" but I don't think it will get many people to go out to the parks because I am pretty sure that not only for the park will the families  spend on but for other stuff as well. Microsoft Windows 7 on market Oct. 22

On Tuesday, Microsoft Corp. said that its new Windows 7 Operating Sysytem will be available on October 22, 2009. Just in time for the holiday season. It was originally going to come out in the beginning of the 2010 year, but Microsoft confirmed last month that Windows 7 will be out for the year's busiest shopping period. Hopefully it won't get bad reviews like the Winows Vista. This would mean that a lot of people are going to spend on a new computer just for the the new windows or buy the installation for an old computer. Either way, Microsoft wins because they're making a profit out of our pockets. I am perfectly fine with my Windows XP, so I will not be buying. I chose this article because technology stories are always great. I do agree with what is happening in this article, because I always hear bad things about the Windows Vista, so Microsoft does need to step it up. The information was presentd fairly. GM bankruptcy: What you need to know

http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/02/news/companies/GM_bankruptcy_faq/index.htm

The General Motors bankruptcy is the fourth largest in history. The company's problems started when fuel prices crippled demand for GM's larger gas burners, including SUVs and trucks like the Hummer. As the recession mounted so did the decline in vehicle sales, especially since many consumers could no longer get loans to buy GM vehicles, and GM's market share fell. The Obama administration provided $19.4 billion to GM to try and keep it out of bankruptcy, But that wasn't enough. The government will provide another $30 billion to keep the company running during the Chapter 11 process. GM wil lose $37 billion worth of debt. Also, GM will lose its Saturn, Pontiac and Saab brands, along with Hummer, which is sold to a Chinese industrial company. The company has already said it will kill off Pontiac.

Chrysler LLC, a much smaller automaker, was able to shed $6.9 billion in debt and leave behind its unwanted assets, including eight factories and franchise agreements with 789 dealerships.  The good news in this is that American taxpayers will end up with a 60% stake, and the rest will be divided among the United Auto Workers union, GM's bond holders, as well as the federal and provincial governments of Canada and Ontario. Individual investors and mutual funds stuck with $27 billion worth of GM bonds will end up with stock in the new company worth a fraction of its prior value. I chose this article because I wanted to know more about this bankruptcy and understand it more, the website has much more information, people should read it. This article was presented fairly and very accurate. Of course I would use CNN again, well at least 4 more times.

Stocks boosted by housing, autos

http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/02/markets/markets_newyork/index.htm

Stocks have gained on Tuesday advancing after a downfall, but managed to come back up after a positive housing report and a series of not so bad auto sales reports. This gave investors some hope. The Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) added 19 points or 0.2% according to early tallies. The index briefly turned positive for the year for the first time since Jan. 7. The S&P 500 (SPX) index added 2 points or 0.2%. The Nasdaq composite (COMP) gained 8 points, or 0.4%. I chose this article because it was a feel good read. I do agree with this article because it gives investors hope. The information was presentd fairly and it was accurate. I would use CNN again.

Stop soaking the not-so-rich

President Obama has said he'd like to lower the tax on families making less than $250,000 and to raise it on people who make more than that. This concept is hardly new; all kinds of taxes aimed at the highest-earning Americans have been enacted in the past. But many of those provisions haven't been adjusted for inflation for decades. Today the Social Security tax is $25,000. The result: Thirty-three percent of retirees are now paying it, and 45% are expected to be doing so less than a decade from now.  Everyone wants to know when is this going to be over. I don't agree with this article because I don't see a change of low tax at all for anyone. The information was presented fairly. I would use this news source again, CNN rocks.

The company did not identify the buyer nor the price, saying only that the deal would close out in September. As part of the deal, some GM plants will continue to build the Hummer brand for the new owner, at least for awhile. The company said its Shreveport, La., plant will keep building Hummers for the new owner until at least 2010. In conclusion of the bankruptcy, there will be a loss of 20,000 jobs, and dozen facilities closed. I chose this article because it was on every news website I went on so I decided to click on it because it seemed interesting. I disagree with what is happening because the Chinese are going to make a profit off an American vehicle. This just shows that the United States' economy is in a downfall. The information was presented fairly, it was easy to comprehend. I would use this source again, it has a lot of news.

Many homeowners are selling their homes. Hard times are upon many people and keeping up with the cost of owning a home have become more and more demanding. Paying for College

This article speaks of all the troubles of paying for college. There are various teens who want to go to college but are not in the economic position to do so. Even with exceptional grades it is hard for many average Americans to afford college. Emanuel Garcia speaks of how he helped young high school students in his community to plan ahead for college. Not just by depending on loans but by begining to save at young ages.

I like this article because i looked at it as a helpful tool towards helping students pay for college.

I agree with this article that saving ahead of time is a major factor in paying for college.

Yes it was presented fairly and proved a very valid point.

I would use this source again because it explains in detail and in a way that is more understandable to young people.

The U.S. Department of Commerce reviewed the economy and surprisingly saw somechanges. The saving rates of Americans are finally rising. There has been a huge decline in spending. Stocks Try to Break Free

The stock market is doing all in its power to get out of the recession. The Dow Jones Industrial average added three points, this was their first positive improvement since Jan of 07. Stocks were referred to as "seesaws" going up and down with positive gain and negative downfalls inconsistently. Stocks jumped in the U.S. on Monday which added hopes to the slowing of the recession.

I choose this article because i was curious to see how the badly the recession was effecting the stock market.

I do not agree with this article because i dont believe that the stock market is anywhere near getting out of the recession.

Trying to Cope When Jobless Benefits Run Out

One of the government's way to help people during the economic crisis has been the extension of unemployment benefits, but even with the recession getting worse those extensions are running out, causing "economic stress". By coping, individuals are selling their car, or going into their retirement savings. Some people are saying that the unemployment benefits are not enough to pay the bills. laid off workers receive on average about 300 dollars a week but it helps them get by. Unemployment benefits last a while before running out. Unfortunately Not everyone qualifies for the maximum amount.  Each state has a formula that calculates how many weeks of benefits an unemployed worker is entitled to, based in part on the state’s unemployment rate and an individual’s work history and earnings and for those who work part-time may not qualify for benefits. I chose this article because it shows that government is trying to help those who are desperately in need. I'm for the government helping the people but I don't like how the benefits run out. I do think the information was presented fairly, it tells you about the good that comes out of it and how sometimes it doesn't last that long, kind of letting you know that you may get money for a couple of weeks but just be prepared when you can't get anymore. Yes, I would use this news source again.

Obama's Outreach to Muslim World Carries High Political Stakes

What is this item about? President Obama makes the most important trip of his fledgling presidency this week, a face-to-face encounter with the Muslim world, culminating with a long-promised speech on U.S. relations with the Muslims. Obama is backing up Iran's idea of having necular energy. He belives Iran has legit energy concerns and that they should use neuclear energy. But it is bringing up the question in preventing the nuclear arms race.

Why did you choose it? I choose it because once i saw nuclear i knew there would be a problem in trusting anyone with that kind of power. You wouldnt want them to use the nuclear energy on you for a terriost attack. So you always have to be caution about agreeing with someone just because it seems like they have "energy concerns"

Do you agree what happen in the item? In some ways i agree and in some ways i disagree. You wouldnt want to leave a country helpless and in the way i disagree u wouldnt want that energy used on you.

Do you think the information was presented fairly? I do belive it was present fairlt and very straigth foward.

GM: What's in It for Taxpayers?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/bw/20090602/bs_bw/jun2009db2009061280860

President Obama has decision to plow $30 billion more into the company for a majority ownership stake makes it clear that the government is investing in earnest. People are asking the question how will the 30 billion investment pay off? It is said that the GM's Market value will have to uprise McDonald's which would make it that for taxpayers to break even is past 69 billion. GM investors resigned back there selves to the bankruptcy. The capitalization that was happening was less than $500 million. This is what a senior Obama administration official said "I don't know how much we're going to recover. We hope to recover as much as we can. That is one of the main reason why i choose this item. I want to see how we will bonce back from this recession. How are we going to get better as a country or even when will we get better. I am just hoping that history isn't repeating itself and we have a bigger crisis at hand. I agree 100% with Obama he is trying his hardest to have this country come out of this crisis. The information was presented very fairly it really didn't stay to one side and i would use this source again because i want to see the different views it has from foxnews.com

Obama picks NY Republican for Army secretary

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_obama_army_secretary

"President Obama picked a Republican congressmen to be the next secretary of the Army Tuesday, bringing another member of the opposition into his administration's fold." The person Obama choose was a New york Rep. John Mchugh. Obama has stated that John is "committed to keeping America's Army the best trained the best equipped ,the best land force the world has ever seen." John has said that he is going to prepare the army for the kinds of weapons other countries have in the 21 century.John has represented upstate New York in Congress since 1993. He is also one of the highest Republican members of the House Armed Services Committee. John is very dedicated to this job and wanting the army to be prepared. "The army has always had a special place in my heart" John had stated. I choose this item because I am very interested in what Obama is going to do with the subject of war. I didn't agree with Bush's ideas of war so i wanted to compare and contrast there ideas. I agree with what Obama is doing because i believe he is a very smart man and he knows what he is doing and i have faith in him.i believe the information was presently very fairly and very understandable.       In Monday's auction, the interest rates of short-term Treasury Bills have declined.  The Treasury Department has auctioned $31 billion in three-month bills at a discount rate of 0.150 percent, decreasing from the 0.175 last week.  Additionally, $31 billion in six-months bills were also auctioned at a discount rate of 0.290 percent, decreasing from the 0.300 percent last week.  The three-month rate was the lowest since these bills averaged 0.135 percent on April 27.  The six-month rate was the same on Jan. 12.  The discount rates show that the bills sell for less than face value.  The Federal Reserve says the average yield for one-year Treasury bills, which is a common index for making adjustable-rate mortgages, increased to 0.49 percent last week, higher from 0.47 percent last week.

I chose this article because I don't really know anything about Treasury Bills and I didn't even know they are sold.  I started reading the article and then I was curious how much they sold for and how much they are worth.

Yes, I agree with this article.  I don't really know what Treasury Bills are used for, but I guess its a good thing they are getting sold.  The prices and percents are so important, so I guess this is a big deal.

Yes, I do think the information is presented fairly.  The article is kind of short, but I still think the writer wrote a good article.  The writer gave me all of the percents, kind of bills, and how much the bills went for.  The writer also told me what the Federal Reserve said and has recorded.

GM Bankruptcy

General Motors finally filed for bankruptcy Monday June 1st. GM shares had gone from .69 to .06. The business was going under and had no choice but to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Obama states that unfortunately $30billion of the tax payers dollars will be going towards helping GM. He is slowly working towards get in the U.S. Government out of the auto business.

I chose this article because GM has been on the verge of going out of business for quite sometime and i found it interesting that they finally filed for bankrupty.

I dont agree with using tax payer dollars to help GM they should take care of there business without the use of innocent tax payer money.

This was presented fairly because it was factual and provided various different opinions.

I would use this source again just to follow up and see how GM is doing and how Obama is taking action in fixing the situation.

The annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive has gathered a record of 73.4 million pounds of food this year, considering the weak economy. The National Association of Letter Carriers held the annual drive May 9, gathering donated items as they delivered their mail. Union president William H. Young said Monday the drive was "amazing testimony to the generosity of the American people even as they themselves struggle to make ends meet." The total amount of pounds of food they have gathered was 73,414,533, which rose from 73.1 million last year. All through out the 17 years they have held this drive, they have collected more than 982 million pounds of food for the needy. The top collector was the West Coast Florida branch in St. Petersburg at 1.7 million pounds of food and the second highest was Buffalo/Western New York.

I chose this article because I think its great that the mailmen/women are collecting food for the needy. They work in and for the community so why not help the community. Its a very nice thing to do and shows that they really care about the citizens of their community.

Yes, I do agree with this article because many people are going hungry as we speak and people need food to survive. I think we all have at least one can of food in our cabinets that we won't eat and can spare. It was very caring of them to ask for donated food while they were working at the same time.

Yes, I do think this information was presented fairly. The article was a little short, but I guess there wasn't much to write about the drive. I still think they wrote a good article though. They told me how many pounds of food they collected this year and compared it to last year's rates. They also told me who was the top collector and who is the second highest collector, which is good to know.

Yes, I would definitely use this news source again. I have used this news source a few times already actually and I think they have the most interesting articles.

Link:<http://www.marketwatch.com/story/calls-grow-for-paid-sick-days-for-all-workers>

A 25 year old girl has to report to work, while her daughter has just come down with pneumonia, because she does not get paid for sick time. She couldn't afford to stay home so she had to leave her daughter home with a babysitter. She is one of the millions of workers that do not have sick time. Jobs like waiters, child-care staff, and nursing-home aides, are many who do not receive sick time and who may feel like they have to attend work when sick in case of losing wages or even their job. The U.S. is the only wealthy country that does not require any form of paid sick days or leave, says a new report from the Center of Economic and Policy Research. "What we know right now is that tens of millions of Americans go to work while they are sick. There are dollar implications, and they spread illnesses to the people they work with. This contributes to billions of dollars each year that businesses lose because of absences, but also because of presenteeism, when people go to work sick and have lower productivity and influence the productivity around them." says Jody Heymann, co-author of the CEPR report and founding director of the Institute for Health and Social Policy at McGill University in Montreal. Advocates say federal law to mandate paid sick leave is mandatory to protect public health and because it is the right thing to do. Congress is considering legislation called the Healthy Families Act, which will give certain workers the oppurtunity to earn one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours they work, for up to seven days a year. Workers can use this time to tend to and care for their loved ones or themselves. A couple business interests think the legislation may threaten employers during the already tough recession.

I chose this article because I think its ridiculous that people do not get paid for sick days. Mothers or guardians have to take care of their children or sometimes other family members when they are ill because no one else will. No one gets sick on purpose, its not like its their fault. Although the job and economy is bad right now, sickness should be an exception at all times.

No, I do not agree with this article at all. If people are sick or a family member is, that they have to care for, they should get excused and paid for a sick day. Unless you are taking "sick days" off frequently, then you are really sick and should get paid for your one day off, especially when you should be relaxing and not having to think about losing the money for that day.

Yes, I think the information was presented fairly. They gave an example of a poor young girl who had to leave her sick daughter home while she worked. They gave some pros and cons of why they should pay people for sick days and why they should not.

Yes, I would use this news source again because the writer wrote a good article and they had some interesting stories on this website.

Health Care Reform....Kind Of

Kennedy outlined major elements of his legislation on Thursday in an op-ed in the Boston Globe. He said it would let Americans keep the insurance they have, reduce costs, emphasize preventing diseases, improve care for the elderly and invest in doctor training, among other steps.Overhauling health-care may cost as much as $1 trillion, and paying for it will be among the toughest parts of the reform debate. Lawmakers are trying to produce health-care legislation by August. Kennedy's Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee has a target date of June 16 to begin working on a bill. I agree and disagree both with whats going on i believe that preserving your health should not cost anything. I believe that being in the medical Field in general should be a federal job and it should be paid for by all the taxes that the American people pay. I agree because i will give the government credit for trying to reform the health-care system....its not quite not there yet.....hopefully in future generations. i think this article is presented fairly because it gives you all the details and future plans for this situation. I like market watch they presented the article and they made it very thorough and i could understand it clearly.

Payroll Shrunk Another Half A Million, Survey Says

The economy is likely to shed another 500,000 jobs in may, the seventh straight month with at least a half million jobs lost, including 539,000 in April. The unemployment rate probably jumped from 8.9% to 9.2%, the highest since 1983. Over the past 10 years, the economy has created just 1.7 million net private-sector jobs, while the labor force has grown by 15.7 million. It's by far the weakest job growth since the Great Depression. In the previous 10-year span (from 1989 to 1999), the economy added 18.4 million private jobs. I thought the economy was suppose to be getting better, but i guess not. I could've sworn a article i wrote not to long ago said that the unemployment rate was going down...i guess they were lying. I'm really disappointed at the information presented in this article but yea i think it was presented fairly. GM Plunges Below $1; Lowest Since 1933!

General Motors valued below $1 per share on friday, ending the lowedt value in 76 years. This American industrial icon is set to become the largest failure in U.S. history. On Monday GM saw its share 33% to 74 cents, This is the lowerst price since April 5 1933. GM plans to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after President Barack Obama makes comments on the auto maker’s restructuring. GM is also set up to become the third largest bankruptcy in U.S. History. I think this is the reason i havent really been seeing GM cars around lately. Its sad because its a american company and its been around for a long time. Link:<http://articles.latimes.com/2009/may/25/business/fi-inventors25>

We thank the Great Depression for inventions such as the Twinkie, Monopoly, and the photocopier. During this recession, we may remember it as when the biodegradable shower mat, a tie that holds iPods, and a gadget that breaks the the vacuum seals of jars were invented. The reason for this is because people who are unemployed are sick of running to job fairs and sending out resumes so they are finally launching off the invention they have been pondering over for years. A number are trying to make millions and others are just trying to solve problems you didn't know you would have until you came across them in an infomercial. "This fluctuation happens every time there's a dip in the economy," says Andrew Krauss, president of the Silicon Valley-based Inventors Alliance. They have meetings where inventors promote and share their ideas and learn how to patent products. "But it's doubled lately -- I've never seen so many people at our meetings," says Krauss. Joe Sale thinks his invention is going to change the way people wear neckties, "one time at a time." The iTie is suppose to hold iPods, business cards, and credit cards in a pocket on the back and its secured with elastic bands that hold the tie from falling in the wearer's soup. Sale has been thinking about how to improve on the invention for years, but never had the time to create and patent the item until he was laid off from his job in August. Since then he has put $25,000 into this invention. The number of patent and trademark fillings in 2009 is falling behind 2% last year because major corporations, which generate the vast majority, are cutting back, says a spokeswoman from a U.S. Patent and Trademark office. "Inventors in states including Michigan and New York have created six local clubs in the last year. Interest in inventing is high, and our membership is growing in the middle of a recession, " says Patrick Raymond executive director of United Inventors Assn.

I chose this article because a lot of people are unemployed right now and people need to make money somehow. I think its great that people are making new inventions because there many problems that we need help with and to solve. So inventions give people money and make out everyday lives easier. Good for them.

Yes, I do agree with this article because people need money since there aren't many jobs available these days. I am glad people are making money. No one should be poor because they can't find a job.

Yes, I do think this information is presented fairly because they gave a lot of information inventors motives and how so many people are doing this. They also gave an example of a new invention.

I don't think I would use this news source again because there weren't many interesting articles on this website.

$1.2 billion for summer jobs

http://money.cnn.com/2009/05/27/news/economy/stimulus_summer_jobs/index.htm?postversion=2009052712

This article is about how the employment for youth is expected to be the lowest since the year 1948. What the government is doing to keep from this happening is that they are issueing a stimulus plan of $1.2 billion that will be utilized for job training. This stimulus is for youth that were either dropouts in high school or disabled and will be paid at least minimum wage. Summer Youth Emploment has been falling and retirees would usually vie for jobs that were required for teen youths to have. The reason for me choosing this article is because it caught my eye because it was about youth that I actually know beause many that I encounter are unemployed and some are even dropouts. I do feel that this article has presented this information fairly. This article can't be argued because each year more and more of the youth are unemployed. I would recommend that this ource be used again.

The U.S minimum wage

A higher U.S minimum wage is giving a cushion to the economy. A study found that the bottom-rung pay will increase spending by 4.9 billion. A minimum wage increase will not just help the middle class people but, will increase the consumer spending. A July 2008 increase helped 1.3 million families and added 3.1 billion additional spending over the following year.

1.What is this item about? An increase in the U.S minimum wage.
2.Why did you choose it? Because i think the idea will work for a lot of familys and, i thought it was really intersting.
3.Do you agree what is happening in thiis article? Yes

Economy still falling but not off the cliff

The good news is that the economy isnt getting much worse. But the bad news is that, its not getting better quickly. Around the U.S. people are still losing jobs and, less people are getting hired. There are homes everyday going down to forecloser. Thousands are losing there jobs, but states say that May and June has been better than March and April. We are still going down but, not as hard there is still hope.

1.What is this item about? How the economy is progressing and, there is still hope.
2.Why did you choose it? Because i thought it was good news and, i thought it was interesting.
3.Do you agree what is happening in this news article? Yes

Link:<http://www.marketwatch.com/story/obama-says-stimulus-beginning-to-work>

Obama says that funding is now available for a solar and geothermal program that will pave the way to a new, clean-energy furture. Economists have been skeptical of the administration's claim that the stimulus has made and saved 150,000 jobs, but the White House is determined that the plan will save or make 3.5 million jobs through out the next two years. Not very much of the stimulus package has been paid out so far, with a majority of it going to states to pay off rising Medicaid costs. House Republican leader John Boehner says " It's been a full 100 days since the bill became law, and the administration is pulling out all the stops to put a positive spin on the legislation, which has been increasingly panned by media and state and local officials as wasteful and inefficient. Basically anything but the 'timely, targeted, and temporary' bill Washington Democrats promised earlier this year." Prior to Obama's speech on Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner declared $1.5 billion in tax credits, stating the money from the stimulus package would make jobs stimulate growth around the country. Treasury said awardees are planning to invest in renewable energy projects, charter schools, health-care facilities, manufacturing companies, and retail centers.

I chose this article because I think the stimulus plan was a great thing for Obama to do. We need jobs badly right now and this plan is suppose to create a lot of jobs. Honestly, I think its working very slow, but I guess it takes time to create jobs.

I definitely agree with what is going on in this article. Once again, I think the stimulus plan was a great thing to do, this economy needs help badly.

Yes, this information was presented fairly and they even gave the views of other political people. Also, they told me what they are investing the money into and its good to know where that money is going.

Yes, I would use this news source again. The information was accurate and they have good articles.

Major GM bondholders OK revised deal

http://money.cnn.com/2009/05/28/news/companies/gm_bondholders/index.htm?postversion=2009052812

Major Gm stockholders are negotiating a different approach with the company being in the financial crisis that it is in. This plan was revealed in a filing with the company on Thursday giving the bondholders ten percent of the company. Another intention was to allow the same bondholders to buy an additional fifteen percent of the company. The company also knew that this would not immediately fix the problem of it facing bankruptcy but any plan is better than General Motors claiming bankruptcy. The reason for me choosing this article is because I like how events stay updated on the "chronicles" of the General Motors financial setback. I do very much agree with this plan for the company. I do think that the information on this article was presented fairly which is why I would recommend this source to be used.

Health Reform: A $1 trillion question

http://money.cnn.com/2009/05/28/news/economy/health_reform_payfor_options/index.htm?postversion=2009052804

The debate over our nations health reform forms the question: how will we pay for it? This is very important because the total cost of overhauling health care is over $1 trillion. I agree with this article because this health reform would guarantee coverage for 47 million people that are uninsured. I think this information has been presented fairly because it provides pros and cons of the health reform. I would use this source and again because it provides good information on what we need to know.

The expextations are that the labor jobs and ect should be better in the next couple months. But the peoples confidence still has a long way to go.
