This article is about how consumers are spending less because of job loss and there decreasing income.People are buying less houses and stocks because they are starting to save there money. I choose this because it affects everyone.Once consumers start spending less, companies will start needing less employees. this will mean more people will loose there jobs.i disagree with what is happening with the lay offs and the decreasing in income. This is because this can affect many people.I would use this news source again because it can inform the public with what is happening and because it can affect them.

Autoworkers: " If we go down, so does this town"
If delphi currently in bankruptcy and chrysler closes their doors tommorow the town of Kokomo Indiana the town could be looking at an 40% unemployment rate. Utimately the workers are hoping that the plant just wont close at all. The believe that delphi is well positioned to emerge from bankruptcy and chrysler's plants may be picked up by another automakers shouls the firm close. In Kokomo the average union wage is about 60,000 a year and the average home is priced at 75,000. i chose this article becuase i think its sad how the people dont know wheather or not they will have a job the next day.Especially if they have a family to feed....hopefully obama will try to help the people who just lost their jobs and their families too. This information has been presented fairly because they dont pick sides. yes i would use cnn again.

109 Cities At 10% or Higher
unemployment rates in 109 metropolitan areas have reached 10% or higher....that is almost eight times more than the year earlier. Jobless rates of at least 15% were reported in March in 18 areas compared with only one El Centro, Claifornia the previous year. The number of metropolitan regions that had unemployment rates under 7% dropped to 95 from 23299 in March 2008. El Centro continues to have the highest metropolitan unemployment rate at 25.1%. The ton near the border relies on agriculture employment, the area employment rate rises and falls depending on the farming season. I chose this article because i'm trying to find a job and right now im guessing its just impossible. Everything in this article seems accurate......i hope because i like cnn. I think this information has been presented fairly i think the author does not show any biases towards the situation. of course i would use cnn agian.

Shovels in the ground: Stimulus at work
http://money.cnn.com/2009/04/29/news/economy/Rhode_Island_stimulus/index.htm?postversion=2009042908
This article is about the federal stimulus funds, because of it Rhode Island's pockmarked Route 138 in Tiverton is getting repaved. The state's 97,000 food stamp recipients are getting more money. And some 2,000 local youths will have summer jobs. I choose it because it talks about the fact the stimulus is helping us more and more each day. I agree with it because whatever is helping the youth works for me. "Rhode Island has moved aggressively in participating in the Recovery Act, especially in those programs that help those most in need," said Gov. Donald Carcieri. "Transportation projects have an immediate impact on jobs and we are well ahead of schedule to use the available stimulus dollars." the article has been presented fairly. I would use this site again.

I choose it because its another way President Obama is helping us out our recession. Of course i agree with this article because whatever way we are changing to help us is good. $1 Billion a day for stimulus
http://money.cnn.com/2009/04/27/news/economy/stimulus/index.htm?postversion=2009042805
This article is about the Obama administration has committed $75 billion in stimulus money in 10 weeks. So far $14.5 billion has been spent, mostly for Medicaid. I choose it because it was also about President Obama. I agree with the article because he is making away to help us more and more everyday. The massive recovery package was designed to stimulate the economy and create jobs, as well as assist states and people suffering from the recession by providing funding for education, Medicaid and other public services. I feel like he is the doing what he promised. Yes i believe the article has been presented fairly. Yes, i would use this source again because i like CNN.com

Swine Flu
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090428/ap_on_re_us/us_swine_flu_us
This article is about the swine flu in EL PASO, Texas. Handful of schools around the country have closed over swine flu fears and some people are wearing masks. It's mostly business as usual in the U.S. , even at border crossings into Mexico. The swine flu has killed as many as 152 people in Mexico, where schools have been canceled nationwide. There were 50 confirmed cases of the swine flu in the United States: 28 at a private high school in New York City, 13 in California, 6 in Texas, 2 in Kansas and 1 in Ohio.
I choosed this article because I wanted to know more about the swine flu and how it all began. I didn't really think the swine flu was that serious until I read this article and saw the news, they were explaining how the swine flu was being spread nationwide and I was suprised seeing the number of people dying from the swine flu.
I do not agree with whats happening because now people have to be careful with what or who they come in contact with. People can't even go outside in certain countries or states, soccer stadiums were closed. I just hope it doesn't get that bad here in Newburgh.
I do think the information was presented fairly because it explained how schools were closed, number of people that died, and the number of cases there were.

US Economy Tumbles Steeply in First Quarter
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090429/bs_nm/us_usa_economy;_ylt=Al0SWT5UFPZAXpkpgjx4Vbfv5rEF
The U.S. Economy Shrink by 6.1% in the first quarter, hit by record plunge in business inventories and sinking exports, but yet investors still are seeing signs of recovery. The Commerce Department said last wednesday inventories were down by a record of a whopping 103.7 billion. But this could be good news for the economy because business have cut thr stick merchandise and that will help them to start placing new orders, stimulating production. The Frederal Reserve said the price of deterioation in the economy is slowing down and that the U.S. central banks will continue to keep their interest rates low. The Home-Building activity dropped 38% the biggest decline since the second quarter, but economist expect to see improvement in the quarters ahead. Exports dropped 30%, which is the biggest declinr in 40 years. A seperate report showed U.S. home loan applications fell 18.1% last week the lowest since mid-march. I chose this article because i felt it was important for people to understand the seriousness of this recession. I think some people dont really pay the recession to much attention because it doesnt affect them directly. It not till after they are affected by it that they now speak out and try to take it seriously. I think this information has been presented fairly because the person does not appear to take sides or stating his or her opinon just stating facts. Of course i would use yahoo news agian i think yahoo has great writers and they present the information fairly.

Obama Pulls U.S. Out Of Recession
http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/01/05/as-economic-problems-pile-up-obame-looks-at-tax-cut/
In this article, Obama speaks of attempting to get the U.S. out of a recession by adding 3 million jobs to the economy. I chose this article because its very relevant to the economy and how it is today. Unemployment was decreasing and to see this was a relief that there is hope for those in need of employment. This will greatly get us out of the recession that we are in today. I cant really say i agree with this article because there is nothing to agree with all i can say is that im relieved and satisfied with what Obama has planned. This information has been presented fairly becuase it is one of the things that need to be done in the economy. I would use this news source because it is a necessity to towatrds the economy today.

This article is about how more and more women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and more and more women are becoming survivors, as well as BEING survivors for a longer amount of time. I chose this article because my great grandmother, and my grandmother had breast cancer. Luckily, my great grandmother survived but unfortunately my grandmother - one of my best friends - did not. I agree with what is talked about in this article because it is true how more types of cancer are just showing up randomly. Now there are also a lot of genetic issues with cancer; if you will pass it to your kids, if your grandmother had it, even if your great-great-grandmother had it. I think the information was presented fairly. This article did not insult anyone or show any racism. They only stated that the article was mostly about women, because breast cancer usually effects women. I would use this resource again if need be.

Swine Flu being a threat to our economy.
http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/providerarticle.aspx?feed=AP&date=20090428&id=9843415
This article is about the swine flu pandemic being a threat to global businesses and investors. The pandemic is discombobulating travel plans and sending stock markets down. I chose this article because it's scary to now that it can worsen our economy right ow in this period of crisis. Because of this swine flu pandemic, travelers are deciding to stay home which puts the travel and tourism industry in a bad position. I agree with what's happening because this flu is problably going to be the cause of businesses closing. In my opinion this information has been presented fairly because it shows the downside of something that could be very catastrophic to our economy. I would definitly use this news source again because of the way it puts the major point across.

Swine Flu Emerges at Worst Possible Time for Global Economy
This article is about the swine flu emerges in the world at the time that we have a recession. Government and business are taking extreme caution with this epidemic. There has been over 150 killed in Mexico because of the swine flu. Cases of the swine flu have been reported as far away as Asia. There is also a school in Queens, St. Francis Prep School who have reported many cases of students becoming sick with this flu. Government believes that the flu came from when the students took spring break and went to Mexico. This is going to put a HUGE demise on our econ my. How are kids going to go school? how are kids going to be trusted at a day care center? Is it really safe to work anymore? The reason i choose this article is because it popped out and brought interest into me. I want to see how the world let alone America is going to come back from this epidemic.I really don't agree with this flu at all but we really cant deny students from going to a certain place on spring break. The information was very straigth forward and present fairly.I Would defiantly use fox news as a source again.

This article is about the first case of the swine flu being spotted in Jerusalem, Israel. After confirming the virus yesterday morning, the Health Ministry raised its level of alert to four on a scale of six. Two israeli men, one 26 and another 47, were hospitalized when showing symptoms of the swine flu after both taking a trip to Mexico. Both patients will stay in the hosipital until tests are done. Over 150 people have died from the swine flu in Mexico and another 2,000 people are hospitalized with symptoms. The contagious flu has spread to the U.S. in states such as California, Texas, Kansas, Ohio, and New York. There have also been reported cases in Canada, New Zealand, and Spain. The economical impact this flu has on Mexico as of right now is bad because the parents can't go to work because they have no where to send their kids. The schools are closed until next wednesday and the daycares are most likely not open either because of the contagiousness. The parents are going to lose over a week of work and that is not the richest country.
I chose this article because I am very concerned with this harmful sickness and I'm not trying to get it. Its very close to us right now, like 60 miles away in NYC. Its scary and the only things we can do to prevent the flu is to wash our hands all the time and not share things with people. This is serious, like you can die from this so we should do everything we can to stay away from it.
No, I don't agree with what is happening in this article because people are getting really sick and the flu is getting spread so quickly. I don't understand how we got this disease from a pig, but it's crazy how it is affecting people. Hopefully, doctors can find a vaccine for this flu because it is spreading unbelievably fast and is deadly.
Yes, I do think the information is presented fairly. These news reporters are right on top of things and thats what we need because it is great to be notified where this disease is being spread to. We want to be prepared so we can take extra precaution.
Sure, I would choose this news source again. The news seems pretty accurate and true.
Flu Could Possibly Be A Downfall of The Economy Worldwide
In New York, a quick and extensive swine flu epidemic could derail a global economic recovery, and even prolong and deepen the worldwide recession, economists said Monday. "We're not there right now. This has to first become a large-scale pandemic," said James Auger, senior analyst, North America, with IHS Global Insight, a global economic research and forecasting firm. But if the outbreak does grow into a large-scale pandemic, Auger said global trade could be disrupted through export restrictions. "It could lead to travel restrictions for goods and people through major control over ports and airports," he said.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said Monday that there were 73 confirmed cases of swine flu worldwide, including 40 in the United States. However, as many as 103 deaths in Mexico have been blamed on the flu, and 1,700 cases are unconfirmed. (CNN.com story) Auger said the impact on market confidence will be more "widely felt." Stock markets in Asia and Europe were mostly lower Monday. After starting with losses, U.S. stocks were mixed at midday. 'It just takes a little bit of bad news right now for sentiment to change," he said.
Auger said some countries had already implemented trade restrictions as a result of the outbreak, which the W.H.O classified as a "public health emergency of international concern" over the weekend.
"We were already seeing a predisposition to protectionism going on," he added. "So some countries could now take advantage of [swine flu] and use it as an excuse to protect their domestic industries."
One example: Russia banned imports of meat products from Mexico, California and Texas as a result of the outbreak.
"It's a very bad time for [the outbreak] to be happening when you want to remove trade restrictions to help economies recover," Auger said.
Tu Packard, senior economist with Moody's Economy.com, said the outbreak could potentially derail chances of a global recovery from the recession.
"We're talking about what's probably the most synchronized global recession in decades," Packard said. "The epicenter is in the United States but it has spread through trade and finance to other countries."
Protecting people: At the same time, those most vulnerable to infectious diseases are also people who have been the most hardhit by the recession in developing and emerging markets, she said.
"It's urgent that we assist these countries to survive the outbreak and the recession," she added.
Packard said she would be "very concerned" if the WHO upgrades the outbreak to a pandemic level in the days ahead.
If that happens, she said governments around the world -- as well as international agencies and groups such as the WHO, United Nations and the Group of 20 economic leaders -- need to show a strong coordinated policy response to stop an "over response" in world markets.
"Failure to do so is something we can't afford," she said. "Markets are strong but they are also jittery. Investors will look for any reason to sell."
In the meantime, Aparna Krishnan, senior analyst (health care) with IHS Global Insight, said the level of preparedness to deal with the swine flu outbreak is "high" compared to the SARS outbreak in 2003.
"In terms of treatments, there's enough stockpiling of drugs," she said. "The main problem is getting an accurate estimate on how many people are infected."

Dollar mixed amid economic jitters
Typical safe haven currencies show strength as investors fret over the scope of the global flu outbreak. Mexican peso sinks against the dollar.
The dollar surged 4.8% against the peso due to the swine flu, the medicine for the flu is about 13.98 pesos, up from 13.34 late Friday. The dollar hit a high of 13.99 in the session. The swine flu break out might be a big problem because of the slow economy recovery. President Obama pushing for credit card reforms
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/obama-pushing-credit-card-reforms/story.aspx?guid=%7BAEE4C377%2D0EC6%2D4521%2DBE8B%2D0BCA374BD2D9%7D
The story is basically about another way President Obama is trying to get us out of this recession. I choose this article because its about President Obama. All my articles will be about him. "We are confident we can arrive at something that is commonsensical, something that allows the industry to continue to provide loans and run a stable business model," Obama said. Whatever he tries to do to help us i am with. I believe everything that President Obama is doing will help us not hurt us. Yes, I think this was presented fairly because in some articles they would try to bash the President saying how he is not trying to help us. I like CNN better but yes I would use this source again.

This article talks about how the iPhone has really improved the sales for the Apple Corporation. The many iPhone sales have raised Apple's quarterly profit by 15 percent. Sales have increased 9 percent to $8.16 billion, overthrowing the anaylist expectations for $7.96 billion. Apple has also sold 11 million ipods, which has went up 3 percent. Apple hasnt had much luck as far as their Macintosh computers, with a 3 percent drop to 2.2 million.
I chose this article because I love ipods and I happen to own 2 of them. The iPhone is a little expensive, but its a hott phone with like everything you can possibly need or want on it. I was also wondering how the iPhone is selling considering the way the economy is right now so I decided to read the article. Apparently, they are doing pretty good.
Well, I dont agree with how expensive the iPhone is, but yeah I think its great that the Apple Corp. is doing good business. We need all of the jobs we can get right now and I bet whoever works for that company is happy.
Yes, I do think the information has been presented fairly. They have the right to make money as long as its not illegal. By creating a device that plays and stores many songs at a time and is small and easy to carry around wherever you go, was a very smart idea. The iPhone was an even smarter idea because you do everything from navigate your destination to call people. The people who invent these things should get a lot of credit because they are very useful.
Sure, I would use this news source again. They have some interesting articles even though I'm really not into politics. It took me a while to find one that interested me.

When you are President Obama and you propose trimming that amount from your $3.6 trillion federal budget.
On the theory that every little bit helps, Mr. Obama convened the first cabinet meeting of his presidency on Monday and said that in an effort to make the government “as efficient as possible” and to ensure that “every taxpayer dollar is being spent wisely,” he was challenging department heads and agency chiefs to come up with ways to save $100 million over the next 90 days.
Budget analysts promptly burst out laughing. A reporter declared at the White House briefing that the initiative would become fodder for late-night talk show hosts. The Republican Study Committee, a group of fiscal conservatives, put out a news release with the headline “Obama’s 0.0025% spending cut.”
The White House was quickly thrust into explaining mode. “This is a symbol of a new attitude and a new perspective,” Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff, said in an interview, insisting that Americans would appreciate the effort.
Mr. Emanuel pointed out that the president’s budget proposes to cut $2 trillion over 10 years, and that Mr. Obama was proposing to save as much as $50 billion through more efficient military procurement.
Of the $100 million, he said, “If that’s all I did — legitimate criticism. But it’s part of an entire process of going through the budget line by line.”
Yet in the city where former Senator Everett M. Dirksen is supposed to have said, “A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon you’re talking real money,” $100 million does not seem like very much these days. After all, Mr. Obama has just signed a $787 billion economic stimulus bill into law. The federal deficit is projected to hit $1.8 trillion this year.
“He enacts a $1 trillion stimulus and then calls for $100 million in cuts?” said Brian Riedl, a budget analyst at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative policy organization. Mr. Obama’s proposal, Mr. Riedl said, was tantamount to asking a family that spends $40,000 a year to cut $1 out of its budget.
The White House put out a list of money-saving areas it has already identified. The Agriculture Department is proposing to save $16 million a year by working with the Treasury Department to root out fraud in the farm subsidy program. The Education Department is increasing the ratio of employees to computer printers and plans to save $2 million by eliminating desktop computers for employees who have laptops.
The Department of Homeland Security estimates that it can save up to $52 million over five years by buying office supplies in bulk. The Justice Department believes it can save $6.7 million by publishing judicial forfeiture notices on the Internet, as opposed to in newspapers.
Mr. Obama said he recognized that “none of these things alone are going to make a difference.” But, he insisted, they would add up.
“$100 million there, $100 million here,” Mr. Obama said. “Pretty soon, even in Washington, it adds up to real money.”

In Calgary organizations helping women flee from violence, the economic troubles in the world are effecting their lives at home. The Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter recieved 1,366 calls in February, which is three times as many calls in the same month as last year. In tough times, just as in booms, alcohol and drug uses have increased, which can increase violence in the home. Also, abusive men aren't as good at controlling themselves when they are under stress.
