In Calgary organizations helping women flee from violence, the economic troubles in the world are effecting their lives at home. The Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter recieved 1,366 calls in February, which is three times as many calls in the same month as last year. In tough times, just as in booms, alcohol and drug uses have increased, which can increase violence in the home. Also, abusive men aren't as good at controlling themselves when they are under stress.

Red, I'd love to know who you are so I can give you credit for this. :) You've made an interesting choice. You're absolutely right that alcohol and drug abuse -- and domestic violence along with it -- increase during tough economic times.
