A new invention is being showcased at Harvard University that is somewhat similar to Google. This new invention is a search engine designed as a global store of information that understands and responds to ordinary language in the same way a person does. Computer experts think this is going to be an evolutionary leap in the development of the internet. This new advanced search engine is called Wolfram Alpha and it has also been proven to be just as important as Google. Wolfram Alpha will not only give a straight answer to a question, but will also provide a page with related information, all properly sourced. The invention's creator, Dr. Stephen Wolfram, says that the information is first assessed by experts so information from websites like Wikipedia, a website where people can add as they want, will not appear. Now that Google is one of the world's most popular top search engines, worth $100 billion, Wolfram Alpha now has the potential to perhaps become one of the biggest names in the world.
I chose this article because I read the title "An invention that could change the internet forever" and of course I wanted to read about it. I thought it was interesting because this new search engine will actually answer your question and give you sites related to the topic. It seems to be smarter than google so I want to try it out. Also since I'm going into college, this website can help me a lot when I have to do research. So for anyone who has not heard of it yet, this may be a helpful website just like google, possibly even better. It does not work yet though, it says launching May 2009 so it will be available soon.
I agree with this new invention because if its going to help me in school then its great. I am so nervous for college and I've heard the work is so much harder. I think I'm going to need all the help I can get. Hopefully this new search engine will be more improved and accurate.
The information in this article was presented fairly and good because they gave a lot of information about the website and its creator. They told us exactly why this search engine will hopefully be better than google and how advanced and accurate this website can answer a question.
Sure, I would use this news source again. This website, or newspaper, has news on this new invention so I'm sure it has a lot of other interesting news also. This article was also very detailed and filled with information so it gave me a good idea of and sorta convinced me how advanced this search engine is going to be and why I should trust it. I won't truly believe it though until I use it for the first time.
Sabrina, Great post. Your point about using experts as a source (unlike Wikipedia, where anyone can post) is terrific. I love the idea that you get answers to your question AND the sources for more information. Your evaluation of the site also appears good, as is your reasoning about the amount of information -- independent.co.uk is a British newspaper -- but I couldn't get to the link.
